Square Foot Gardening

Have you heard of square foot gardening?

My brother and his now 5 year old son began gardening with two raised bed gardens over two years ago.  Honestly, no member of our family has a green thumb, so I figure if my brother can do can I!

So, on his recommendation I purchased this book...

After a lot of reading, planning, and researching I finally decided to try it.  I (with the help of a friend) planted two 6x6 garden boxes worth of seeds and plants yesterday.  Here are pictures of my two boxes.

I'll upload pictures soon with details of what is in each square foot grid.

  1. i've sooo wanted to start square gardening even though i'm not much for gardening. perhaps one day. can't seem to get around to it. laundry and chasing around cj seems to take priority

  2. Wow! Your garden looks so... neat! I just wrote a post on our box gardern that we planted this weekend. Too funny... I only have one BIG box! Oh well... :)
I'm wishing you luck with the green thumb! I know I need it.
    Jenn :)

  3. I have that book too. I built my box but that is as far as I have gotten. I am curious...did you use the dirt mixture that was in the book? I am having a hard time finding some of the dirt that is recommended. Good luck with your garden.

  4. Square Foot Gardening is the most productive, efficient, and easy way to garden. Not only does it use just 20% of the space a traditional row garden, it saves water, and time spent digging and weeding. For more information on Square Foot Gardening please visit our web site
