Burlap Stenciled Curtains

My sister and I did a little switcharoo several weeks ago.  We were both tired of our living room furniture, so we decided to trade.  I am in love with my new look, and best of all...it was FREE!  The only issue was curtains.  My sister didn't have curtains, and I have a massive front window that needed a little privacy.  So, I decided to put my new sewing skills to good use.  Forgive the pictures, I took them at night (as you can tell by my sleepy dog who would not budge).

I purchased a stencil that I really liked and matched the paint colors to the blue and brown.  The burlap alone looked too bland, but the stencil gave it the needed punch.

The funniest part of this project, is that I made a slight boo boo purchasing 16 yards of burlap instead of 16 feet...it was one of those days!  Needless to say, I'll be doing a lot with burlap over the next year(s).

  10. Can you tell me where you found your stencil? I was actually at Hobby Lobby tonight, then went to Hancock Fabric and purchased 15 yards of burlap, instead of 15 feet - hah! Should've done this internet search prior to going out! Anyway, looking for that type of stencil. Thank yoU!

  11. Hi Tyra. Sorry for your boo boo too. The good news is burlap is cheap! I purchased the stencil at Michael's (the one craft store you didn't go to). They had it in large and small. I plan to make some pillows for the couch using the smaller stencil. Good luck. Post a picture when you get a chance!

  17. Thanks so much for the info! I'm heading out to hit Michaels right now! I just finished a 3500 square foot addition to my 1927 house and I have a ton of windows. I have BIG plans to use burlap on lots of the many, many windows. I thought I'd do some with fringe, some with pom-poms, some with monograms, etc. So, yes, the 15 yards will not go to waste.... This is the first time I've EVER really read, let alone, commented on a BLOG - wow! Your's led me all over the place last night and it was soooo fun! I will definitely post a photo when I get my project done. Thanks again. Tyra
